Superintendent's Welcome Message

Hello, Windham school community members!

It is with great pleasure and honor that I am able to continue our work towards the goal of further district improvements.

My goal as the district leader is to maintain the rigorous school curriculum we are known for while providing a safe and nurturing environment for all students to thrive.  I also want to continue to empower our parents to serve as partners in the overall educational process.

Our district currently offers an array of programs to help provide an engaging learning environment that meets the diverse needs of its learners. The district has a Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) which encompasses our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports System (PBIS), our Student Support Team (SST), and our Response to Intervention (RTI) program.  These systems ensure that we are meeting the academic and social-emotional needs of students in our district.

Safety and security are always the highest priority for our students, staff, and community.  Currently, our district has a dedicated district-level emergency management team who meets regularly to review and analyze our current safety plans. In conjunction with the police and fire departments, our students and staff practice emergency and safety drills throughout the year, teaching them what to do should a dangerous situation on campus occur. All administrators must complete ongoing online FEMA courses focused on school security and safety. Our district also utilizes Homeland Security auditing, occurring every three years, to identify areas of strength and potential areas for improvement. In addition, we utilize table-top exercises to work through simulated emergency scenarios. Each year, all staff participate in emergency management training run by the Windham Police Department.

All schools also have mental health and guidance counselors on site who are experts on how to identify and acknowledge the social-emotional well-being of our students and staff, as it relates to characteristics of mental illness or potential risks.

I believe that the Windham School District has the highest concentration of exemplary staff (principals, teachers, district leaders, counselors, and support staff).  Our staff is instrumental in providing the best educational and social experiences for our students and is responsible for the exemplary learning environment that we know and love in Windham.

I look forward to continuing to build on our learning experiences to create a collaborative culture for an improved tomorrow.

Best wishes for an excellent school year!

Thank you,

Dr. Kori Alice Becht
