Math
The Windham School District offers a comprehensive K-12 math curriculum incorporating both the Common Core State Standards as well as Local Windham School District Standards. Mastery Standards, also known as Power Standards, have also been identified at each grade level. The Mastery Standards identify key benchmark skills necessary for students to be successful in academic math progressions and in life. They are reviewed and reassessed periodically throughout the school year.
In Grade K to 8, an integrated approach to mathematics is taken. Students study topics in the areas of Number and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, and Data and Statistics. In grades 6 to 8, some students take Accelerated Math in preparation for taking Algebra 1 in Grade 8. In Grades 9 to 12, courses are offered in a more traditional pathway. Most students take Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 followed by a choice of an elective math class during senior year. Honors level students have the ability to take AP Calculus as well as AP Statistics.
Business
The Windham High School Business Curriculum has been developed to both prepare students for advanced study of, and career preparation in business related fields as well as to prepare all students to live and prosper as adults in our society. Students learn critical thinking skills, written and verbal communication skills, professional etiquette, as well as, developing financial awareness. Students also learn foundational concepts of computer applications and digital organization that will remain relevant through future advances in technology.
Business classes are offered in three different strands: Marketing, Finance and Accounting, and Computer Applications. Each strand exposes students to a different area of Business giving them insight into many facets of the Business world. We also offer a Life Skills Business program in collaboration with the Special Education Department. This class is personalized to each student’s needs, abilities, and individualized learning goals.
